Living Green at Home - Renovation Tips
Are you thinking of renovating? Here are some tips for living green at home:
Painting or Staining: Look for eco-friendly or zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints, such as Serena and Libby.
Replacing Cabinetry: Today, there are many alternatives to using formaldehyde-laden, particleboard-based cabinetry. Seek out manufacturers who use sustainably harvested soft and hard woods (Grass Cabinetry and Jon Duvall).
Replacing Countertops: The choices are endless! There are countertops made from recycled glass and concrete (IceStone® and EnviroGlas®), eco-ceramic and cement (Lithistone®) and cement composites (Syndecrete®). Not only are these products ecological and durable, they are very attractive! Also, ask your fabricator or interior designer if they have any stone set aside that can be recycled. They are now given incentives to avoid using a landfill.
