Japan to launch carbon footprint labeling!

Filed under: Martha McDonnell - Summit NJ Blog

Like Great Britain and France, Japan is requiring manufacturers of consumer products to include the carbon footprint for each product, from distribution to disposal, on product labels.  Japan is still working out a standardized method of calculation.  While many large corporations have embraced the regulation, critics feel the methodologies are too vague and will confuse consumers, and ultimately, not increase consumer awareness.  Only time will tell, though.

Costco quite often dedicates a page in their monthly magazine to respond to questions and criticisms set forth by their members about wasteful practices.  That tells me that consumers are aware, care and will choose a product brand accordingly.
